Rooted in Community. Ready to Serve.
My name is Christina Cherry, and I’m running for Newark City Council At-Large because I believe our city deserves leadership that listens, shows up, and puts people first.

I am a proud South Ward resident, a retired U.S. Navy veteran, a mother, and a longtime community advocate. Service has shaped my life, both in uniform and at home in Newark. I know that strong communities are built through trust, transparency, and a government that works alongside the people it serves.

Why I’m Running
My journey has taught me that lived experience matters in leadership.

I became emancipated at 16 and learned early what it means to navigate systems that often fail those most in need. Those experiences shaped my commitment to advocacy, equity, and accountability. As a mother and nonprofit leader, I have spent years working directly with women, families, and individuals facing economic hardship, housing instability, and limited access to resources.

Through The C. Cherry Foundation, I’ve worked to uplift and empower Newark residents by connecting people to support, education, and opportunity. Running for City Council is a continuation of that work. I’m stepping forward to bring community-driven solutions into City Hall and to make sure our policies reflect the realities of the people they impact.

My Priorities
My focus is practical, people-centered, and rooted in accountability.
Quality of Life
Every resident deserves to feel safe and proud of their neighborhood. I will advocate for clean streets, responsive city services, and investments that improve daily life for families, seniors, and small businesses across Newark.

Fair Representation & Electoral Reform
A healthy democracy depends on participation and fresh leadership. I support term limits and reforms that encourage civic engagement and ensure our city government reflects the diversity, energy, and voices of Newark today.

Transparency & Civic Engagement
I believe government works best when it is open and accessible. I am committed to increasing transparency, expanding voter education, and strengthening trust between residents and City Hall so people understand how decisions are made and how to take part in them.
