About
The Why
I am a proud South Ward resident, the current District Leader for District 18, and a former City Council candidate (2022). Just like you, I am deeply invested in improving the quality of life in our ward. As a single mother to a wonderful four-year-old, my mission is to ensure he grows up in a thriving, safe, and vibrant community—one that he can take pride in.
As the proud founder of The C. Cherry Foundation, I have dedicated my life to uplifting and empowering women, families, and individuals in need. Through our programs, we provide essential resources, transitional housing support, and community-driven initiatives that foster stability and self-sufficiency. We have expanded our impact by opening an Empowerment Center, continuing the critical work we started in the South Ward. This space serves as a hub for support, education, and opportunity, ensuring that no one in our community is left behind.
Through my leadership in the South 17th and 18th Street Neighborhood Association, I have worked relentlessly alongside the City of Newark to address the pressing issues that impact our community daily. From combating illegal dumping, excessive trash, and absentee landlords to tackling drug activity, addiction, and gun violence, I have been on the front lines, advocating for real solutions.
I believe that lasting change starts at the root—by creating safe spaces for our children and elders, strengthening community ties, and fostering a sense of pride in our neighborhoods. My commitment to service, advocacy, and progress remains unwavering, and I will continue to fight for a better South Ward for all of us.
